About Us
Kayla Aird is a chemistry graduate from Western Oregon University. Her studies led her to become a safety professional and quality management expert in the food manufacturing industry, where she developed and honed her skills for safety inspections and internal audits.
Her quality management and inspection experience provided her with an excellent background to become a U.S. Coast Guard Marine Inspector, where she conducted safety and security inspections onboard foreign flag and domestic ships. In 2020, she was honorably discharged from active duty where she transferred to the USCG Reserves and began the vigorous Marine Chemist Training Program.
The independent contracting company Breakwater Marine Surveys was started in 2022 and has joined the highly specialized and outstanding members of the Marine Chemist field. As a Marine Chemist, Kayla specializes in Hot Work and Repair Surveys onboard ships and within shipyards. She additionally provides Confined Space Entry Permits, Shipyard Competent Person Training, Vessel ISM, ISPS Audits, and More.

Meet Your Chemist
As a Chemistry graduate from Western Oregon University, Kayla Aird became a safety professional for food manufacturers in 2009. She continued her safety career when she entered the Maritime industry in 2013 and trained to become a Coast Guard Marine Inspector. Her invaluable training as a Marine Inspector and prior scientific background made her the perfect candidate for becoming a Certified Marine Chemist. She now supports the shipping industry with safety training, vessel inspections, and gas free certifications.
